Daniel Craig may be about to face off against Rami Malek in the next Bond film, according to Variety.
Producers are reportedly eyeing up the Mr. Robot star to play a Bond villain, months after he wowed critics with his Oscar-tipped portrayal of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody.
We don’t know much about the film’s plot or characters yet, but Rami will be in good company if he takes the role. Christoph Waltz, Mads Mikkelsen and Javier Bardem have all made their mark in recent Bond outings, while the Bond villain has traditionally been a figure almost as important as Bond himself ever since the franchise began.
There’s just one catch: Rami is supposed to start filming the last season of Mr. Robot in March, which is also coincidentally when production on Bond 25 is due to get underway under director Cary Fukunaga.
Surely a whiz kid like Elliot Alderson could figure out a way to make it work. If he does, he’ll join a cast that includes Daniel as 007, Ben Whishaw as Q, Naomie Harris as Moneypenny and Ralph Fiennes as M, plus Léa Seydoux, who’s reprising her Spectre role as psychologist Madeleine Swann, and two actresses currently being cast in two key roles, an MI6 agent and a “mystery woman.”
The as-yet unnamed Bond 25 is set to open in theaters on February 14, 2020.
